Data-based mechanistic rainfall-runoff continuous-time modelling in urban context

چکیده
This paper presents a data-based mechanistic modelling (DBM) approach to rainfallrunoff modelling based on the direct identification and estimation of continuous-time models from discrete-time series. It is argued that many mechanistic model parameters are more naturally defined in the context of continuous-time, differential equation models. As a results, there are advantages if such models are identified directly in this continuous-time form rather than being formulated and identified as discrete-time models. An illustrative example based on the analysis of rainfall-flow data from the Kerinou catchment in Brest demonstrates the relevance of the proposed modelling approach.

UAV-based mapping of surface imperviousness for water runoff modelling
Modelling rainfall-runoff processes in urban catchments has become an increasingly relevant issue, for instance to estimate the risk associated with urban flooding in densely populated areas. This needs hydrological models which, besides rainfall information, require good input data of detailed surface characteristics, such as imperviousness to accurately predict rainfall-runoff. One way to obt...
متن کاملRainfall-runoff modelling using artificial neural networks (ANNs): modelling and understanding
In recent years, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have become one of the most promising tools in order to model complex hydrological processes such as the rainfall-runoff process. In many studies, ANNs have demonstrated superior results compared to alternative methods. ANNs are able to map underlying relationship between input and output data without prior understanding of the process under in...
متن کاملApplication of Local Area Weather Radar (LAWR) in relation to hydrological modelling – Identification of the pitfalls in using high resolution radar rainfall data
Recent analysis of spatial and temporal resolution of rainfall and the advent of small inexpensive rainfall radars has lead to increased use of radar estimated rainfall as input to hydrological models especially in urban areas. Detailed rainfall measurements have indicated a very high spatial variation of up to 100 % of a distance of less that 200 m over a 3 hour rainfall event [Jensen and Pede...
متن کاملMonthly runoff forecasting by means of artificial neural networks (ANNs)
Over the last decade or so, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have become one of the most promising tools formodelling hydrological processes such as rainfall runoff processes. However, the employment of a single model doesnot seem to be an appropriate approach for modelling such a complex, nonlinear, and discontinuous process thatvaries in space and time. For this reason, this study aims at de...
متن کاملCalibration of a Daily Rainfall-Runoff Model to Estimate High Daily Flows
Flood estimation can be performed on the basis of event-based simulation or continuous simulation. A model with continuous water balance accounting has the attractive feature that dynamic factors affecting runoff production may be represented explicitly (Lamb 1999). In particular, a conceptual rainfall-runoff model can simulate the changing antecedent moisture conditions that determine the catc...
